About Puri – The Holy City of Lord Jagannath
Puri, officially known as Shrikshetra, sits on the Bay of Bengal in the Indian state of Odisha. It forms part of the sacred Char Dham pilgrimage circuit — one of the four holiest spots in Hinduism — alongside Badrinath, Dwarka, and Rameshwaram. This seaside town of roughly 2.5 lakh people draws over two million visitors every year, many of them pilgrims who come to seek the blessings of Lord Jagannath, an avatar of Lord Vishnu.

Jagannath Temple
The 12th-century Jagannath Temple is the soul of Puri. Rising 65 metres above the city, its kalash (golden pinnacle) is visible from miles around. Non-Hindus are not permitted inside, but the view from the rooftop of the Raghunandan Library opposite gives a breathtaking panorama of the entire temple complex.

How to Reach Puri
By Air
The nearest airport is Biju Patnaik International Airport, Bhubaneswar, about 60 km from Puri. From there, taxis (₹800–1,200) and buses run regularly. The journey takes about 1.5 hours by road.
By Train
Puri Railway Station is a major terminus with direct trains from Delhi (Purushottam Express), Kolkata (Jagannath Express), Mumbai, Chennai, and Ahmedabad. This is the most convenient way to arrive.
By Road
Excellent NH-316 connects Puri to Bhubaneswar (65 km, 1.5 hrs). Regular OSRTC buses operate from Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, and beyond. Private taxis are also widely available.
